Halloran & Sage is pleased to announce the board of directors from the Connecticut Coalition to Improve End-of-Life Care (CTEOL) voted unanimously to welcome attorney Jennifer S. Mullen as their new board member. Jennifer is a member of the firm’s health care practice.
The CTEOL focuses on improving the care and support of dying patients and their families during the end of life and bereavement periods. Members include government agencies, community groups, schools of nursing, medical schools, long term care providers, home health care and hospice providers.

Halloran & Sage partner Christopher McCarthy will be panelist at, Mediation in Practice, an event sponsored by the Connecticut Mortgage Bankers Association (CMBA) Loss Mitigation Committee. The event will be held Thursday, November 13th at McCue Mortgage in New Britain from 8:30 am until 11 am. Chris will be presenting alongside Nancy McGann, a Program Manager in Judicial Mediation. The seminar will outline the judicial mediation process from both the mediator and legal perspectives and include discussion on a new foreclosure statute that may directly impact mediation. Quinnipiac University School of Law is hosting a symposium entitled, “Justice For All, The History and Future of Legal Aid in Connecticut.” Kelly McKeon has provided valuable background research for the panel discussion, the History of Legal Aid in Connecticut, and will be getting published in the forthcoming Symposium Issue by the Quinnipiac Law Review, which corresponds to the event. This symposium will feature presentations surrounding the oral history project lead by the CT Bar Foundation James W. Cooper Fellows and current issues pertaining to legal aid. The event will take place Friday October 17th from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m, at the Quinnipiac University School of Law in North Haven.
Halloran & Sage is pleased to announce that Christopher McCarthy has been appointed to The Connecticut Mortgage Bankers Association (“CMBA”) Board of Directors. A longtime member of the CMBA, Chris is a commercial litigator with the H&S Banking, Foreclosure and Collection practice and brings his knowledge and experience to the board. He represents the state’s largest lending institutions in foreclosure, bankruptcy and collection matters. Chris will be installed as a new board member at an awards dinner in October. The CMBA is a non-profit association that supports the mortgage lending industry, ethical business practices and serves as an informational and educational forum for Connecticut communities through its homeownership efforts.

They were selected from a competitive group of over 300 nominations. The CLT selects a diverse list of Connecticut attorneys that display qualities as a forerunner in the legal field in the areas of firm leadership, casework, publications and pro bono work.
Halloran & Sage is pleased to announce that George Royster has been certified as a Special Fee Master by the National Association of Legal Fee Analysis (NALFA) and has been admitted as a member of the 2014 Attorney Fee Practice Group. George is also a Fellow of the Academy of Court Appointed Masters. Special Fee Masters are selected by courts and clients to evaluate the fairness of attorney fees in complex litigation involving multiple parties. NALFA is a professional association for the legal fee analysis field, bringing together members that provide a variety of legal services on attorney fee and billing matters.
Halloran & Sage recently presented a health care seminar entitled “Protecting Your Patients, Yourself and Your Company on HIPAA and Cybersecurity Issues” to health care and information security industry professionals. The presentation featured a distinguished panel of speakers that included the H&S Health Care Practice Chair, Arnold Menchel; Connecticut Attorney General, George Jepsen; Connecticut Assistant Attorney General, Matthew Fitzsimmons; The Walker Group Vice President of Professional Services, Steven Bulmer and R-T Specialty LLC Broker, Kevin Violette. Topics covered included an overview of HIPAA, Connecticut information security laws from the Connecticut Attorney General’s perspective, IT security issues from a technical perspective and cyber security insurance.
Henry Beck, Jr. recently provided background information and was quoted in a Hartford Business Journal article discussing the interest of Asian companies in Connecticut’s energy industry. The front page news story discussed the recent acquisition of a South Windsor, CT fuel cell manufacturer by a South Korean firm and a Chinese firm’s acquisition of an Enfield, CT based solar panel manufacturer. Henry is the Co-Chair of the International Law Practice Group of ALFA International, the law firm association with members in all 50 states and more than 60 countries, of which Halloran & Sage is a charter member.

Halloran & Sage is proud to announce that James Perito has been appointed Chair of the Grants Committee for the Branford Community Foundation (“BCF”). A Branford resident, Jim is also member of the Board of Directors. The BCF connects community members with causes that provide local beautification improvements, renovations and educational resources and assistance to families and individuals. They also pride their leadership choices on selecting individuals for their knowledge, interest in the foundation and integrity of judgment. The BCF relies substantially on grants and contributions which have established numerous town improvements and continue to develop ongoing projects.
Allen Gary Palmer has been assisting the Connecticut Bar Association, Family Law Section in the launch of an innovative series of continuing legal education programs designed to offer section members timely information on key Connecticut Supreme Court legal decisions. The new program, Case Flash, is a video program presented in an engaging, easy to follow talk show format. The concept is to bring short, timely CLE programs directly to each member's computer.
